The Disappearance of Lloyd Gaines A Civil Rights Pioneer

Let’s spend some time learning about a civil rights pioneer 28-year-old Lloyd Gaines, who disappeared from the face of the earth in March 1939. 81-years-ago this intelligent graduate student who was challenging the system of segregation at the University of Missouri simply never appeared again after supposedly going out for stamps one rainy night in Chicago. Today, I will read an article written by Chad Garrison in April, 2007 that was published in the Riverfront Times. Lloyd Gaines is name that many in our communities will not be familiar with but he another example of the oppressive conditions our ancestors face simply because of the color of their skins.

Is Every American Historical Symbol Stained With Slavery Blood And Human Loss?

Today, I will share some history that was just uncovered about the famous Old North Church. It seems that a few of the church's benefactors were heavily involved in human trafficking. It seems that the famous Old North Church steeple that was so prominent in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere was built with the soiled, stained human blood of African slaves.

I will first read the Longfellow poem and then I will read the article that appeared in the Boston Globe on 10/26/2019. The history that we were taught about the famous historical institutions and symbolic buildings of America's past are seemingly never the true history. It is time for this nation to finally come to grips with its stained history and reconcile its past with actions to restore the nation's future.

Too long has history ignored the true story and with the gory revelations about slavery being uncovered almost daily. The discussions pertaining to some sort of economic reparations must begin and not continue to be ignored. Can you really look at the steeple light that resonated freedom from the British Empire's oppressive reign as the enlightenment of democracy? When the steeple's benefactors were infected with the virus of black human trafficking. That funds bloodied by black human bodies built this famous steeple that Mr. Revere looked on that April night in 1775.

Rethinking The Four Year Colleges On UNCF DAY In Black America

The economic cost of 4 year college continues to escalate upwards beyond the value in many cases of that education. Our students are bing saddled with enormous bills due to pay for a college experience that in many cases cannot deliver the economic package it once delivered. On this, UNCF DAY in Black America may be the time has come to redefine what should be offered as courses on our black universities and colleges across this nation. We have mirrored our college courses after the Anglo-Euro model of education for far too long. One way to immediately cut the cost of a 4 year school is by making the first two years optional for all incoming Freshman. This may mean giving a test that will allow eligible students to opt out of the first 2 years of university required courses. The only mandated courses I would have at all HBCU's would be REPARATIONS 1&2 Course which would embody a study and discussion of the feasibility of Black Reparations for black students of African Descent. If we are to gain reparations we need first to understand why these reparations are due and how they are to be distributed. Otherwise, college study would be centered solely around 24 months of extensive study around one's chosen major. I would also extend the secondary school experience for at least one additional year called the Academy Year which focuses gaining a foundational structure to build college success. Since, President Biden is calling for 2 years of Community College free the Academy Year plus the 2 Free Community College Years will provide more than enough structure to ensure college success for all students interested in pursuing college. Also, is a student chooses he/she can bypass college completely to enroll in job preparatory institutions based on the BOOKER T WASHINGTON MODEL of job training and service excellence. All of our HBCU's would essentially become 2-3 models that focus on building community professional capable of competing in an ever-changing world of technological advances. We need to change how we view and proceed to advance our communities without depleting our students financial resources even before they realistically start to add value to our communities. I know that this isn't a complete plan but on Dr. Patterson's day that evolved into the United Negro College Fund. Our communities cannot continue to follow a pattern not developed by us for us to rebuild our neglected communities in the future. This is just a few thoughts please add others so we move how we add our students in this century and beyond.

Freedom To Spread Ignorance

"When a white American makes this statement "It's not our diversity. It's our freedom." those who understand historically this nation's putrid history regarding treatment of people of color. Know exactly what this means. Freedom to terrorize, freedom to deprive equality, freedom to murder with impunity, freedom to enslave and freedom to imprison, freedom to neglect and ignore rancid conditions amongst the neediest community, freedom to destroy this nation's scales of justice, and freedom to steal dreams and replace them with nightmares. So when I saw Laura Ingraham's sprouting her white supremacy views about protecting freedoms and neglecting diversity all I could think of was Laura Ingraham, and her Fox News cohorts standing at the Gates of White Supremacy protecting the Lost Cause."

Really?

"It seemingly took only a matter of weeks for the United States Senate to pass an Anti-Hate Asian Bill today. While it took nearly a century for the United States Senate to get close to passing an Anti-Lynching that would protect African Americans from incidents of explicit hate and violence. Emmitt Till has been dead for 65 years and the bill named in his honor still sits in the Senate seeking approval. Hell, our African American ancestors were being burned alive and lynched in plain view but White America ignored our plight, now White America that just wasn't right. That should tell you all you need to know that America is not and has never been America for the African Americans.
