William Sherman: Florida Slave Narratives: The Federal Writer's Project

William Sherman was owned by John Davis, brother of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy. William Sherman was 94-years-old at the time of this interview and its contents are quite revealing about the horrific and terror-driven conditions our enslaved ancestors faced. The Blackman Who Reads Aloud continues his journey through The Federal Writer's Project, Florida Slave Narratives with this reading. We must share the history of our people to ensure that coming generations have a connection to the struggles and hardships we faced forced into iron chains.

Move South For Change Black Man, Black Woman

"What Dr. Charles Blow writes in The Devil We Know regarding a reverse migration from north to south for a significant number of black millennials makes a deal of sense. At the rate, the Hispanic populations are growing in the Southwest and California they will own the political capital to drive policies because within three decades Hispanics will become the majority population of Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, and while California won’t be majority Hispanic, Hispanics will be the largest racial group in the state. That means Hispanics will control not only the statehouses but also 8 US Senate seats and have a significant influence in California's Senate selections. They will also control how those states elect representatives to Congress. They will have control of the electoral votes as well. Where, what region of the nation will Blacks have the opportunity to gain political power? Only in the south with a massive shift of our young black millennials to the following states to bring these southern states to a majority or plurality of blacks: Louisana, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Arkansas. Right now our populations are simply too scattered in the western, eastern, and midwestern regions to apply true political pressure but if as a mass move south. We then as a political group gain significant political and economic power. Let's make that move away from these states that promised our people everything but delivered our people nothing. Move south black millennials move south. The opportunity for substantiating changes is within our reach. All need to do is look at what happened in Georgia in 2020 and what Stacy Abrams and her PAC accomplished. If another 1/2 million folks moved into Georgia in the next decade we own that state and then replicate the Georgia model throughout the southern states and we now have the political power we have sought for far too long. It is too difficult a task to stay in our current positions politically and truly believe we will reach any power without a concerted effort by us for us. We cannot depend on building coalitions with other groups especially when those groups carry some of the same racist baggage that whites have against Black Americans.

DOUGLAS PARISH: AGE 86: FLORIDA SLAVE NARRATIVES: THE FEDERAL WRITER'S PROJECT

The Blackman Who Reads Aloud continues the journey through the Federal Writer's Project, Florida Slave Narratives with the reading of the recollections of Douglas Parish, at the time an 86-year-old former enslaved Blackman. The interesting point of Douglas Parish's recollection is the use of our enslaved ancestors in track events amongst the slaveowners.

Louis Napoleon: Age 79 : Florida Slave Narratives: The Federal Writer's Project

The journey continues through the recollections of our formerly enslaved ancestors. Today, we read and learn about Louis Napoleon who was born into slavery in 1857. As I journeyed through these recollections Louis Napoleon's recollections mirror many of our ancestors who through mental brainwashing saw enslavement not as a horrid condition but as one that had some redemptive factors. However, the reality was that those who thought like that didn't have control of their own bodies or mental senses. They were owned by the plantation owners who purchased them and breed them as they would cattle.

How Did We Allow This Mess To Happen

Yes, Trump was indeed a terrible human being, a god-awful antagonist, Trump's public displays embarrassed the United States moniker ascribed to the nation's President, "leader of the free world". However, what is currently going on in withdrawal in Afghanistan must certainly rank as one of the greatest international failures this nation has experienced. Hell if Trump was heading this fiasco that is currently developing in this god-forsaken country. I couldn't imagine the backfire he would be receiving from the Democratic political leadership. How can any American support the actions related to the withdrawal of the American presence in Afghanistan that the Biden Administration implemented? If you are in support of this policy with supposedly clear thoughts you must be deaf, dumb, and blind, and I mean no offense to people who suffer from these ailments personally.

This President has purportedly open-faced lied to the American public on numerous occasions since the withdrawal began. Biden's Secretary of Defense has no defense for Biden's position related to the public welfare and safety of the literally tens of thousands of Americans who are now stuck behind the enemy's lines in Afghanistan by Taliban extremists. Each American stuck in Afghanistan is now possibly not only a potential victim of a violent attack but also a possible hostage to gain some political advantage by the Taliban forces.

In 1979, 52 Americans were held hostage by the Iranian Government, after the Iranians took control of the American Embassy in Tehran. That action eventually toppled the Presidency of Jimmy Carter which lead to the Reagan Presidency and look how those 8 years devastated the black communities across this nation. Now, in 2021 it isn't 52 but possibly 15-25,000 American targets left in Afghanistan for prime picking. How in the hell did Biden allow this madness to manifest itself and creep into the darkness of utter confusion and possible terror. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be stuck on August 21, 2021, behind enemy lines under the leadership of President Biden, whose failed leadership decisions created this monstrously dangerous situation.

How many months until the 2024 General Election? How many months before the 2022 Midterm Elections? This has the makings of a situation that cause a serious chasm in the political environment not only in this nation but the Afghanistan Collapse could reverberate negatively all across the globe. Because not only are Americans stuck behind now enemy lines but also citizens from across the globe are caught in the violent crossfire. In order to save face internationally, American troops will need to be put into harm's way again to police the exodus of all those who are currently entrapped in Afghanistan. They however now will be facing Taliban forces who are in procession of military armaments that Afghan troops handed over without resistance last week. We need Presidential leadership now, now a President and his political party running for cover and blaming 45 for this current situation. If you go into a china shop and see the china toppling over you had better make sure you move that china into a safe position. No matter who came into the shop before you. Biden didn't do that so he's responsible for the breakage, not Trump.
