Banks, Gaither, Merritt, & Robinson

Today, I want to do something special by going back to a period of extreme excellence on 4 black college campuses when the doors of opportunity were closed to 4 great generals of the gridiron. These four men were incredible leaders who lead their respective schools to athletic excellence year and year out. I will be posting 5 photos one that includes each coach and the other 4 that will be an individual photo with a significant quote. I hope that you will enjoy my turnback on black historic athletic history.

In a time when any of these men could've major major corporations, or headed athletic departments of major white universities. These coaches were restricted to playing the games under the rules of Jim Crow which limited the opportunities not only available to them but also limited the opportunities available to their coaching staff as well as their players. They had limited budgetary resources, limited financial support from rich alumni, and restricted laws which in many cases allowed for little or no maneuverability like coaches at the white institutions. Yet, time after time these men outpaced the obstacles and developed football players' who excelled on the field of play as well as in their college classrooms.

Eddie Robinson, Jake Gaither, Big John Merritt, and Earl Banks all broke the mold and created dominance for their respected schools. They actually put their schools in the national limelight because of the excellence that they demanded of their staff as well as their players. Even if their players couldn't compete against the white colleges and universities it didn't stop the professional teams from rushing to these schools practices and games to catch a glimpse of future National Football League stars and Hall of Famers.

I know that other HBCU's were also enjoying success and had great coaches and players. However, when you think of regional success you think of Morgan State as the eastern power, Tennessee State as the midwestern power, Florida A&M as the southeastern power and Grambling as the southwestern power in the legion of historically black colleges and universities. So, join me on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, as I pay homage to these great men who lead each of their schools to athletic greatness.

Julian Castro It Looks To Me That You Are Out

I know that I shouldn't be going there but I will Hispanics make up 17.6% of this nation's population. So why is that every month Julian Castro comes begging and threatening to end his campaign if he doesn't get a certain amount of financial support? There are 56.6 million Hispanics currently living in the USA not including the thousands upon thousands of undocumented Hispanics. If each Hispanic US citizen donated 5 dollars to Castro's campaign he would have enough money to stop this insistent monthly begging. Hey Julian Castro, either you are in or you are out. If you are registering .08 in the national polls currently. That means Julian Castro even your Hispanic community isn't behind you. So, in other words, you are out! I not saying that every Hispanic should blindly follow Castro's campaign by damn can he get at least 30-50% of them too?

Pay Your Fair Share Uber Rich "The Ultra Millionaire Tax"

Why would every person whose wealth rises above 50 million dollars object to paying an additional 2 cents for each dollar above that figure annually to support the betterment of the society that assisted them in building that wealth? Some of these individuals actually pay little or no taxes based on the number of monies that they have accrued. There are about 75,000 households that fit into this category. Elizabeth has indicated that over a ten-year period this revenue plan can bring nearly 3 trillion dollars into the nation's economy.

If we can build and improve schools, improve and maximize public education across the nation and rebuild the crumbling infrastructures. Why not have those multi-multi millionaires and multi-multi billionaires foot some of the cost? Hell, I don't think 2 cents isn't enough considering the myriad of concerns that we face as a nation. I would actually increase the levy to 5 cents per dollar annually. The wealth disparity in this nation is a huge injustice that needs to be rectified.

Elizabeth Warren's Ultra-Millionaire Tax is a solution that should have been in place since the days of the original super ungodly rich Carnegie, Du Pont, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, and Morgan. It's catch up time in the nation and no longer can the middle class bare the burden of building and rebuilding this nation. Another thing you will not be able to hide your wealth in shell accounts on foreign shores to avoid this Ultra Millionaire Tax because if you are indicted and convicted of avoiding the tax. The Ultra Millionaire Tax moves from being a legal requirement of 2-5 cents per dollar to a punitive assessment of 25-50 per dollar and jail time.

This is the only way that the Ultra Millionaire Tax will work because many of these individuals will leave the nation and gain citizenship in other favorable nations. However, that will not work because if you or your corporate interests continue to do business in this nation. You will still obligated to pay that annual assessment. Of the Republican Party and even the Democratic Party shills, they will oppose these revenue programs because of the many lobbyists who front for the Ultra Millionaires. However, if the majority of the nation votes for change than change will finally happen.

Expect a huge battle in the nation's courts on the constitutionality of such a tax assessment. Expect the guns are blazing in the legislative halls not only in Congress but also in statehouses across this nation battling against this tax assessment. Because one thing the uber-rich has is an unending supply of monies to defeat such a measure. Yet, if we stand strong, ALL OF US against 75,000 households, we win this battle. It's a battle that must be fought even if Elizabeth Warren isn't elected President. This measure is a measure that should be adopted by every one of the Democratic Party Presidential candidates.

Behold The Land "W.E.B. Dubois"

Revisiting the great words of our intellectual giants.
73 years ago today on October 20, 1946, W.E.B. Dubois stood before an audience of young black men and women to address the Southern Youth Legislature in Columbia, South Carolina. Besides the fact that this was one of the last major speeches that Dr. Dubois would give on American soil. This gathering was also vital in that many of the attendees of this conference would be the leaders and foot soldiers of the impending civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s'.

Today as I do every October 20th. I post The Blackman Read Aloud Hour Project reading those historic words of Dr. Dubois that energized this gathering to make the most significant gains in race equality that we as a community have ever accomplished. By this time Dr. Dubois had been shaded by the lack of progress in racial assimilation as well as progress in the rights of African Americans across this nation. Yet, he had an unabiding belief in the ability of young black Americans to change the course of this nation.

"One Million Views"

In order for our community to reach its full potential, we must focus our energies on the full development of our youth. Understanding that one's ability to read and comprehend, write effectively, communicate with others, think critically and turn creative thoughts into direct action will ensure that our communities will maximize their potentials.

So it is imperative that we are teaching our youth to elevate each one of these traits and abilities. Not one of these skils is more important than the other. Each serves a purpose to complete the picture of a whole person capable of building up what is needed to be uplifted. If our communities do in fact develop an ample supply of youth purpose-focused and strategy-oriented through a mastery level of the critical skills than we as a community will not and cannot be stopped from turning each of our communities from human deserts of despair to communities that radiate a powerful force of positive change. They will turn into the oasis that they are intended to become.

That is the role of my blog in this mission to support the goal of transferring knowledge and thoughts dedicated to the uplift of our youths in every community across this nation. I would like to thank a million views I have acquired since I began this project a few years ago. This blog along with The Blackman's Read Aloud Hour Project is my gift back to our community for I truly believe in the mantra, each one teaches one.
