The Black Blogger Reads Aloud May 31, 1955 "ALL DELIBERATE SPEED"

The late Dr. Derrick Bell, Silent Covenants, Brown v Board Of Education & The Unfulfilled Hopes Of Racial Reform, Dr. Bell writes and provides a mini-lesson on the Brown II decision that took the steam out of the historic May 17, 1954 Supreme Court ruling with these three words, all deliberate speed, 63 years ago today, May 17, 1955. The fact that the court reversed course in 1955 tells just how pervasive bigotry and supremacy was embedded in our nation. Still today all deliberate speed is the course of gaining justice in this blighted judicial system of America. Judge Bell understood this while many black Americans still have their eyes closed to this injustice.

Black Blogger Reads May 31, 1921 Up In Hate Filled Fire Of Racial Destruction, A Black Dream Is Dest

Can you imagine a black community when our black ancestors' dollar circulated 19 times before it left that community. Those black dollars was the enrichers of that black community. The fact of the matter is that a unified circle of prosperity encased that community. That's how it was prior to May 31, 1921, on Tulsa, Oklahoma's north side in the black town of Greenwood, Oklahoma. This was the location of Black America's Famous Wall Street. You know that pettiness, and jealousy from the white communities was the common denominator for those who saw this uplifting economic community of black folks. Now, 97 years later on May 31, 2019, that same black dollar circulated 19 times in Greenwood, Oklahoma now circulates an average of 6 hours, 360 minutes, or 21, 600 seconds in our black communities.

However, on May 31, 1921, all of that black progressive economic power was crushed like a grape because white racism, ignorance, and white terror inflicted on that remarkable community. In a period of time when Jim Crow was flourishing in almost every region of this nation. Greenwood, Oklahoma not only defied the odds and was beating those odds easily until it wasn't. Because within a 24-hour period the entire Greenwood black community was erased from maps of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hundreds of blacks were murdered. Hundreds more were injured and literally, thousands were left without homes or businesses. All of this because of white vengeful bigotry, white mob violence, and utter white racial hatred.

So today, click on this link as I read aloud a newspaper article written on the day after the Greenwood Community was erased from the face of the earth, 99 years ago today. I wonder if we can or will fully comprehend the level of destruction that was perpetrated on Black America on May 31, 1921. You see if Greenwood, Oklahoma was allowed to prosper it could've been the model of replication for black communities all across this nation. That is why we must learn our history and understand the magnitude of violence our ancestors faced even after slavery ended. Our black communities can no longer run away from our history, no matter how terrible the results. We must run towards those experiences, learn from them, and fully comprehend how to interpret our ancestors' experiences can better our own experiences.

Countee Cullen

Once riding in old Baltimore,
Heart-filled, head-filled with glee,
I saw a Baltimorean
Keep looking straight at me.

Now I was eight and very small,
And he was no whit bigger,
And so I smiled, but he poked out
His tongue, and called me, "Nigger."

I saw the whole of Baltimore
From May until December;
Of all the things that happened there
That's all that I remember.

Next Selection The Blackman Read Aloud Hour Project

This evening I will be starting a new book on The Blackman Read Aloud Hour Project “Worse Than Slavery” Parchman Farm and the Ordeal pf Jim Crow Justice. As with all the books on my project the selection is historically relevant to our communities today. Even more so as we see a defiant pushback in our communities against a blighted American criminal system. See you this evening on my Facebook Live and your timeline.

Our Formula To Black Greatness

Live, Love, Life
Compose, Interact, Engage
Admire, Respect, Complete
Strategize, Calculated, Determined
Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Black Neighborhood
Stand Up, Faced Up, Not Bowed Down
Conceive, Believe, Achieve
Black Is Truly Beautiful
Black Life Is Truly Precious
I Can’t Breathe If You Can’t Breathe
If One Goes Down We All Go Down
Defiance, Reactive Acts Directed Towards Change

What we need right now in our black communities across this nation are that all of our people are doing the best to be the best "you" that they can ever do;
Because in being the best "YOU" we as a black community automatically becomes a much better US.
Let that percolate in on your brain waves for just a minute. Value your brother and your sister even if he or she seemingly doesn't yet value himself or herself. Each black life is a miracle of uniqueness and has the ability to produce greatness. We cannot close the doors on that greatness.
