Do You Know The Story Of This American Hero?
If you followed my reading aloud hour project on Facebook Live you certainly would've know his story and the many more that aligned with this act of vengeful terror. Today,Thursday May 13, 2021, I completed reading aloud the book "Unexampled Courage: The Blinding Of Staff Sargent Isaac Woodward" in Batesburg, South Carolina, February 12, 1946. Please join my recorded read-aloud to hear the concluding pages of this remarkable retelling of our ancestors who stood out for unexampled courage. Below is a photo of the eye gouging that Ancestor Woodard endured and was commonplace for any Blackman who simply stood up against the white walls of Jim Crow and demanded to be treated like a man. How many of us in our school communities across this nation were taught the story of Isaac Woodward? Why has his name been erased from the annals of American History? Because maybe his blinding like so many other atrocities against Black Americans are shameful for a nation supposedly built around democracy.
